Support desk for access to expertise on NAMs

At the 3Rs Centre Utrecht (3RCU) we support the replacement, reduction and refinement of animal experiments in biomedical research. As animal-free methods and New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) continue to evolve, expertise becomes more specialized and may not be accessible to everyone. Our exploratory study among (bio)medical stakeholders in the Netherlands, highlighted a demand for additional expertise in this field and a need for guidance and interpretation of information on NAMs. The advisory report can be found here (in Dutch). To bridge this gap, we established Suppo³Rt.

The support desk is open to anyone who needs additional expertise on NAMs in the field of (bio)medical research. Whether you are working at an Animal Welfare Body, an Animal Experiment Committee or whether you are a researcher who would like information on new animal-free technologies, but does not know where to start, everyone is welcome.

At Suppo³Rt we work along the following structured approach:

You contact us with a question on the replacement of animal experiments via our support desk.
We plan an intake with you for your specific needs.
We find experts that suit your field(s) of interest and inquire on their availability and suitability for consultation.
We connect you to an expert or a team of experts where 3RCU acts as a moderator.
A conversation takes place between you and an expert or team of experts.
The gathered information can be formalized into a report (optional).
We shortly evaluate the approach and your experience with the support desk.

If you would like to receive consultation on animal-free technologies and would like to discuss with an expert of team of experts, then send an email to 3RCU@uu.nl. Please include your name and your research question or the topic you would like to receive advice on.

The support desk is in a piloting phase and the process is currently free of charge.

The support desk will connect to the EU COST Action IMP₃ROVE to make use of their NAMs Expert Database. This database has been established in accordance with the guidelines of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Personal data will only be used for the support desk. Inclusion of your personal data is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time.
