Mathematics in Teams

The Freudenthal Institute annually organises three mathematics days for pupils to work on a large mathematics assignment in teams of three or four for a whole day, and produce a deliverable, often a report or poster. These activities focus on skills such as problem solving, modelling, presenting, reasoning, discussing and cooperating. A good division of labour within the teams and an effective strategy are crucial. The assignments have been designed to stimulate creativity and an investigative attitude in the pupils and can therefore easily be used as practical assignments or mathematical thinking activities.
