Welcome (back) to Utrecht University
On this page you will find information to help you get started if you are new to university.
Employees and students at Utrecht University have access to certain IT services with their respective Solis-ids. Which services are available depends on the roles assigned to your Solis-id (employee, student, guest or a combination of these). The IT Service Desk will send you an e-mail if the role of your Solis-id has changed.
Everyone connected to the University of Utrecht in some form can use the following IT services:
Employees of the University of Utrecht can use:
- Outlook (Solis-mail)
- Office 365
- Intranet
Students of the University of Utrecht can use:
Student employees will also receive an employee mail account (@uu.nl). When you lose your staff role, you only get your @students.uu.nl email address again.

As a student, you can use various IT services. In some cases, you will receive a Solis-id before your enrolment is final. Receiving a Solis-id is not a guarantee on the status of your registration.
Matching, intake restriction or selection
If you need access to certain IT services for reasons relating to matching, intake restriction or selection (e.g. Blackboard), you will receive a temporary account. We call this a 'Sunrise account'. In order to use these IT services, you need to set up your Solis password and often your two-factor authentication as well. To do this, follow the instructions you received in the email about your Solis-id.
Once you have registered, your Sunrise account will be converted into a student account. You will then have access to all IT facilities for students.. If you are not enrolled in a course of study, the Sunrise account will automatically expire.

Most of the information can be found on the intranet of Utrecht University. With an activated Solis-id, you will gain access to the intranet. You can activate it by setting a Solis password. Did you forget your password or did you not receive it? Please restore the password by clicking on "Forgotten password".
- Did you not receive a Solis-id? Please contact your contact person within the UU or contact the IT Service Desk.
- Are you new to the university? After activating your Solis-id, you can read the first practical tips to help you to get started.
- Are you a student at the UU as well? Please keep in mind that all your emails will be sent to your employee email address and no longer to your student mail address.
Are you a participant in the Summerschool Utrecht? If so, you will find all the information and contact details you need on www.utrechtsummerschool.nl.
Are you a member of the Summerschool Junior? If you have any questions about registration and admission, please contact Summerschool Junior.
Are you enrolled in education for professionals? If so, you can log in on the learning platform (if relevant to your programme). Please check out the FAQ or contact us for more information.
If you are an employee of UMC Utrecht and it is important for your work that you have access to university systems, resources and services, you can apply for a Solis-id through the Faculty of Medicine. This will give you access to Osiris, eduroam and the intranet of Utrecht University.
Once you have become a member of the University Library, your Solis-id will give you access to some of the library's facilities. You can find the addresses and facilities of our (two) locations here. All employees of University College Roosevelt each receive a personal Solis-id for access to the education-related services of Utrecht University. All visitors to Utrecht University can use the wifi eduroam at all university buildings by connecting to UU-visitor.
Athletes at Olympos Sports Centre will each receive a personal login to use wifi (eduroam) at the Sports Centre. Do you not have a Solis-id? Please check your registration at the Olympos Sports Centre.
