Wouter Dhert appointed as scientific director of innovations in Life Sciences
Starting january 1 2022, Wouter Dhert will strengthen the Life Sciences strategic theme team as scientific director of innovations in life sciences. Dhert has held a chair in translational musculoskeletal research at Utrecht University since 2008 and was dean of the faculty of veterinary medicine from late 2014 until 2021. Before that he held various positions at UMC Utrecht, one of which was leading the Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells strategic theme. He laid the groundwork for the Regenerative Medicine Center Utrecht.
The core team of the Life Sciences strategic theme, led by vice-dean prof Peter Luijten, is set to benefit from Dhert's extensive experience in the area of interfaculty cooperation in the fields of regenerative medicine, the transition to animal-free experimentation and innovative models for translational research. He is well connected and has a large international network. He is one of the initiators of the Dutch-Flemish RegmedXB consortium, in which Utrecht University takes a prominent place.
