Workshops for ASEAN diplomats and Philippines officials

On 3 and 4 November 2025 Seline Trevisanut, Land Nguyen, and Alex Oude Elferink discussed current developments in the law of sea issues with diplomats from ASEAN countries at a workshop in Manila, the Philippines. This included such issues as sea-level rise and baselines, the advisory opinions of the ICJ and the ITLOS relation to climate change and the BBNJ Agreement.

On 5 November they participated in a workshop with Philippines officials on recent legal developments in the South China Sea. Lan Nguyen and Alex Oude Elferink presented a number of topics covered in their report The International Law of the Sea and the Couth China Sea Disputes.

The events were co-organized with the Embassy of the Netherlands in the Philippines, the Department Affairs of the Philippines, and the Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea (University of the Philippines)
