What to do when you have to write a ton? Organise a Write-athon

From Screenathon success to a new experiment: the first ASReview Write-athon packed researchers into one room for a single day of collective writing, turning lonely chapters and half-finished datasets into shared focus, sudden breakthroughs—and even a dance break—proving that writing thrives in company.

Since the Screenathon, we’ve learned something important: research gets noticeably better when you put people in the same room. So naturally, we asked the only logical follow-up question: what if we did that… but for writing?

So that’s exactly what happened during the first ASReview Write-athon. One day, one room, and a long list of papers, PhD chapters, datasets and “I really should finish this” projects.

It turned into a day of intense focus, sudden breakthroughs, a few battles with formatting… and, somehow, a surprising amount of progress. At one point there was even dancing.

Maybe writing doesn’t always have to be a solitary activity after all.
