Video: Book Launch Julie Fraser, Social Institutions and International Human Rights Law Implementation
Dr. Julie Fraser, Assistant Professor of International Law and human rights expert at Utrecht University, organised a book launch and panel discussion via Zoom, on 24 June 2021. The event was held with regards to her book: Social Institutions and International Human Rights Law Implementation, published by Cambridge University Press.
A panel of four researchers will discuss the content of the book, dealing with the power of social institutions like religion to promote human rights compliant positions and behaviours. Julie Frasers book has the subtitle "Every organ of society", stating that the traditional State-centric and legalistic approach to human rights implementation is not enough. The book therefore explores the permissibility of other measures of implementation, and advocates more culturally sensitive approaches involving social institutions.
The panel consists of:
- Dr. Stacey Links, Lecturer at Leiden University, Chair
- Dr Julie Fraser, Assistant Professor at Utrecht University
- Professor Alison Dundes Renteln, Professor of Political Science, Anthropology, Public Policy and Law at University of Southern California
- Professor Ann Skelton, Professor at University of Pretoria and member of UN Committee on the Rights of the Child
