Utrecht Young Academy (UYA) is looking for new members

The Utrecht Young Academy was established in 2016 with the first 24 members and currently has 40 members. Each year an additional 8 members are selected. In even years, academics at Utrecht University may nominate themselves. In uneven years, candidates are nominated by deans, education vice-deans, directors of strategic programs, and PhD-councils and the UYA Alumni Network.

Who are we looking for?

The UYA is looking for 8 engaging young UU scientists (between 0 and 8 years after receiving their PhD degree). There is a preference for individuals who have not (yet) held a leadership position within a large research group. Members tend to be at an earlier stage in their career than members of De Jong Academie of the KNAW. UYA members think "outside the box," have a broad vision of research and education, and are motivated to actively organize and participate in UYA events. In general, members should be willing to invest two to four hours per week in UYA activities.

Selection Process

In odd-numbered years, deans, education vice-deans, directors of strategic programs and PhD councils may submit 3 nominations each. In addition, UYA alumni and members of The Young Academy of the KNAW in Utrecht may nominate 2 candidates from their academic careers at Utrecht University. In the even-numbered years, young scientists may nominate themselves.
