Utrecht University signs Pledge 2.0
Working together on sustainable accessibility in the East of Utrecht
On 19 January 2026, Utrecht University signed Pledge 2.0 (2026–2030), together with 23 other organisations in the East of Utrecht (Utrecht Science Park and Rijnsweerd). With this joint commitment, the partners will continue to work towards smarter and more sustainable travel behaviour in the coming years: less dependence on cars, more space for walking and cycling, a stronger role for public transport and less congestion during rush hour.
For Utrecht University, this is an important step in keeping Utrecht Science Park accessible and a pleasant place to be, especially now that the area is growing in terms of student, visitor and employee numbers. Collaboration is essential in this regard: mobility does not stop at the boundaries of a single organisation, and solutions only really work if they are made logical and attractive throughout the entire area.
“As Utrecht University and owner of Utrecht Science Park, we feel and take responsibility for accessibility and quality of life in Utrecht East. By actively supporting staff and students in adopting more sustainable travel behaviour, we have made noticeable progress in recent years and demonstrated that targeted measures and incentives really do have an effect. With Pledge 2.0, we are consciously choosing to further strengthen this approach together.” Hommo Hamster, Head of Area Development & Campus Management, Utrecht University
