Utrecht University research global runner up in Shanghai category Geography
Shanghai Ranking
Utrecht University researchers are ranked second best worldwide in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking) category Geography. Only the University of Oxford has achieved a better ranking in this field of research. Utrecht University as a whole has been placed 51st in the global ranking, making it the highest ranking Dutch university.
The internationally influential ranking takes into account factors such as Nobel Prize and Field Medal winners, citation scores and articles in Nature and Science. One important issue here is the ‘highly cited index’, which includes the 1% of most frequently cited academics over the last ten years.
The category Geography includes research that has been published in dozens of different scientific journals, mainly in the natural and the social sciences. The researchers involved cover a broad spectrum of disciplines, and are spread across several faculties of Utrecht University.
