Update on Humane Endpoints Website
Following the launch of the revamped FCS-free and the interspecies database, we have also been working on an upgrade of another tool: the 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲. This e-learning resource is now also hosted on Utrecht University's online platform and features a new interface!
What can the Humane Endpoints Website do for you?
The humane endpoints website is an E-learning platform. The website helps to train future researchers on how to monitor welfare of different laboratory animals (i.e. rat, mouse, zebrafish). The website contains closed and open sections with extensive explanations and trainings on how and when to decide to take action to prevent or alleviate pain and/or distress.
Unfamiliar with Humane Endpoints?
A humane endpoint is the earliest indicator of an experimental procedure at which the animal discomfort should be ended or relieved. This is determined by monitoring various criteria such as body temperature, body weight, and behavioral changes. If you want to learn more, visit the website for details.
Aligning Humane Endpoints with the mission of 3Rs
Refinement is one of the key principles of the 3RCU (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement). By implementing Humane Endpoints, researchers can refine their experiments to reduce animal suffering while safeguarding the scientific quality of their research. Although we prioritize Replacement and Reduction over Refinement, if animal experiments are being performed, we aim to make sure that the infringement on their welfare is as limited as possible.
Not Done Yet!
This launch is just the first step towards a brand new website. Reach out to us and stay up-to-date for the new version!
