The issue was published on September 1 and revolves around new approaches in comparative literature that have been developed in the wake of digitization and in the context of the new materialism in the humanities. With contributions on electronic literature, graphic novels, audiobooks, and handwritten texts, the issue is a plea for a comparative literature that looks beyond the bounds of the print novel and an investigation into its potential as an interdiscipline of comparative media. The special issue includes contributions by Isabel Hofmeyr, Birgit Mara Kaiser, Jessica Pressman, John Zuern, Sander van Maas and Jan Baetens.

This publication was realized with support from NWO, as part of the research project 'Back to the Book'.
