How do infrastructure and the urban environment shape cycling experiences? Utrecht University researchers Prof Dick Ettema and Dr Svetlana Bialkova are currently addressing this question in their experiment with a 'virtual reality bike' at the Stadskantoor in Utrecht.
Participants take a short ride on a bike while using a VR application showing various urban landscapes in the Netherlands. This experiment is part of the international research project DePICT. The researchers aim to find which factors contribute most to the cycling experience. They also investigate how urban mobility can be made more sustainable. The DePICT research is carried out in three countries with varying cycling and walking habits: the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Brazil.
Dutch-speaking participants above 18 years of age can take part in the experiment at the Stadskantoor. For more information on the experiment, please visit this page in Dutch.
