Want to gain more insight into how your students learn? Would you like to try out a possible solution to a problem you face when teaching? Would you also like to share these insights with your colleagues? Then the SoTL Grant is probably for you. Submit your application by 25 October at the latest!
Application procedure
From the Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning, we offer teachers the opportunity to get started with educational research! We provide budget, expertise and guidance. You can submit an SoTL application twice a year (deadlines are 25 October and 4 April). The most important requirements are that the application is related to your own educational practice and is based on an SoTL approach: you research your education in a methodologically sound way. What can you expect during the research period?
Together with other SoTL researchers, you will form an intervision group and meet once a month. During the intervision group, consisting of up to four teachers, you will present the progress of the project, give each other feedback and you can receive guidance in carrying out your SoTL project from experienced SoTL researchers and, if necessary, educational advisors.
Notes on finances
You can apply for a maximum of €10,000. A maximum of €5,000 can be awarded as hours/time for the SoTL researcher. In addition, a maximum of €5,000 can be spent on (student) assistance (e.g. for support with data collection and analysis, focus groups), material costs (e.g. incidental expenses, computer hardware or software to carry out the scientific project, data transcription, translation) and dissemination costs (e.g. presenting the project at a conference, open access costs). Both SoTL researcher hours and other costs should be spent on the SoTL research, and not on designing or implementing teaching.
