The Utrecht University Social Entrepreneurship Initiative organised a student meet-up for representatives of student organisations on the 16th March 2017. The goal of this event was to get to know each other and share knowledge and ideas. Utrecht University Social Entrepreneurship Initiative aims to strengthen the cooperation between organisations that may contribute to the local ecosystem for social entrepreneurship.
Student event & inspirational lecture on social entrepreneurship
The event started with pitches by the organisations Enactus, Solve and Academics for Development on their activities, how they’re connected to social entrepreneurship and why they think that’s so important.
This was followed by a contribution by Stefan van Panhuijsen (Social Enterprise NL) who presented an overview of the state of social enterprises in the Netherlands and possibilities for students when it comes to social entrepreneurship.
Afterwards, we hosted “brain picnic”: an interactive workshop session. All participants shared their challenges when it comes to social and sustainable entrepreneurship, and thereafter people added their opinion, ideas and solutions on these challenges.
Finally, the participants joined the inspirational U.S.E. Academy lecture by social entrepreneur and founder of Fairphone: Bas van Abel. He shared the dilemma’s he faced in the real-world economy when developing the Fairphone, as first step towards a fair and sustainable smartphone.
