Start of the design phase for the Transcomplex renovation

Architectural practice DP6, selected as the tender winner, began work on the design for the renovation and modernisation of the Transcomplex in early May 2026. DP6 is collaborating on the project with specialist firms in building services, structural engineering, building physics, and heritage conservation.

The Transcomplex comprises several interconnected buildings, including a number of listed buildings. The renovation will prepare the buildings for future use. Once the work is complete, the office spaces will once again better meet current standards in terms of comfort, sustainability, building services and maintenance.

During the design phase, the design team is working closely with the Faculty of Humanities, which will be using the building again following the renovation. In a series of themed sessions, requirements, key considerations and practical issues are being discussed and further developed.

Detailed planning

Over the coming period, the design team will continue to develop the plan step by step. They will also be looking into what temporary accommodation is required for the building’s current users during the renovation, so that teaching and research can continue as normal whilst the work is underway. Further information on this will follow once more details are available.

According to the current schedule, the design phase will run until the summer of 2027. The renovation work is then scheduled to begin. The work is expected to continue until 2029. This schedule will be further refined in the coming period, including in relation to temporary accommodation for the current users
