Sonja de Leeuw elected for membership Academia Europaea

Prof. Sonja de Leeuw (professor of Dutch television culture in international context) has been invited to join the Academia Europaea. This scientific academy brings together outstanding European researchers in all disciplines.  De Leeuw has been the driving force behind EUscreen, Exploring Europe's Television Heritage in Changing Context and is a pioneer in the field of digital television heritage.

Academia Europaea is a European, non-governmental association acting as an Academy. The members are scientists and scholars who collectively aim to promote learning, education and research. A membership is for life and the new members will be installed in the spring of 2018.

De Leeuw is chair of the EUScreen foundation. EUscreen is an unique collection of Europe’s television heritage. Major audiovisual archives in Europe have joined forces to offer unified access to the history of television in Europe. Thousands of video’s and images are available for free online consultation.  EUscreen encourages users to actively engage with the history of Europe and the history of television regardless of the language and cultural boundaries.

She is co-founder and editor of the e-journal VIEW. Journal of European television history and culture. the first peer-reviewed, multi-media and open access e-journal in the field of European television history and culture.

De Leeuw also does research in relation to CLARIAH (Media Studies and Digital Humanities) and she is a member of the Scientific Board of DARIAH-EU. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of Digital Humanities Lab DK in Denmark.
