Social Network Analysis
New Expertise:

The Governance Lab Utrecht has a new member with a specific expertise: simuation research. Machiel van der Heijden used simulation-based network models to analyze transnational patterns of collaboration between regulatory agencies and will continue to do such work on other collaborative settings relevant to the public sectors as well. Recent advances in social network analysis (SNA) combine computational simulations with observational data, allowing for the analysis of how networked patterns of collaboration evolve over time as well as what their consequences are. Such methods are particularly useful for questions of governance, given the complex webs of interaction that characterize administrative practice.
