To increase interaction among PhDs and master students working in applied mathematics, the Utrecht University now hosts a SIAM Student Chapter at the Mathematical Institute. The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) supports about 150 Student Chapters worldwide, which are all organized by PhD students working in applied mathematics. Utrecht University is the second university to host a SIAM Chapter in the Netherlands, after TU Delft.
The official opening of the SIAM Student Chapter at Utrecht University took place on Tuesday, February 21, from 4-5 PM. Ajinkya Kadu, PhD at the MI and member of the board of the new SIAM Student Chapter, said that they do not only plan to organize regular talks among PhDs and master students as well as workshops, but also fun activities, such as canoeing.
