Short report UCERF Symposium 13 April 2023

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, the 17th UCERF symposium on current developments in family law took place. This year, the hybrid symposium welcomed around 120 participants at University Hall and another 25 participants online. It was a mixed audience of lawyers, notaries, mediators, judges, legal practioners and scientists.

Wendy Schrama opened the day and was followed by three speakers who spoke on various topics: mr. Maaike Huijzer about the compensation for wealth transfers between informal cohabitants, mr. Rieneke Stelma-Roorda about a statutory regulation for the living will and dr. Pieter Cannoot about the first name of trans and non-binary persons in the light of the right to gender autonomy.

After the break, Mr. Liesbeth de Beij continued with a presentation about minors and medical care, Dr. Bram Hogendoorn about the financial consequences of divorce and Dr. Maria de Jong-de Kruijf about her experiences in the juvenile justice profession. There was also room for questions and discussion with the audience, which made it an interesting afternoon.

It was a successful day, thanks to the speakers, the organization, the sponsors and the participants.
