Utrecht University recently issued a call for proposals among its researchers to answer a scientific research question more easily, quicker of more effectively through the innovative use of IT. Eight innovative research proposals have now been awarded financial support from a new fund made available through the Research IT programme.
An overview of the winning proposals can be viewed on the innovation fund's webpage. All 35 proposals received were evaluated based on the degree to which they envisioned a new and innovative use of IT in research. The programme's Advisory Council felt that the eight winning proposals were most successful in demonstrating this aim. The applications were of high quality and came in from all faculties.
One of the winning projects of the previous round, from Rens van de Schoot, appears to be a huge success. In his collaboration with ITS colleague Jonathan de Bruin, promising results have been achieved that received a lot of media attention (see here for articles - in Dutch). In this video they tell more about the project.
The researchers will now begin work on their respective proposals. During the projects, each of them will be partnered with an IT contact who will support the researcher with regard to technical issues. Results will be published once they are available. This was the second round in the existence of the fund. An evaluation will take place at the end of 2019. With a positive outcome, a new round will probably be started.
