Renewed Minnaert building officially reopened

After a year and a half of renovations, the Minnaert building is modernized into a more airy, functional and sustainable education building, with more seating in the central atrium and more natural light in the offices. Monday 18 December Minnaert building was officially opened with a musical entrance by students.

The modernized Minnaert building is now connected with the buildings Buys Ballot and Victor J. Koningsberger building. Together the education centre for the study programmes of the faculties of Science and Geosciences at the Northwest Cluster of Utrecht Science Park De Uithof. All three buildings are connected via a walkway on the first floor and a spacious central atrium in the Minnaert building.

The first new occupants of the renovated building are the employees of the Faculty of Science.  When the new semester starts in February 2018, the Minnaert will again host educational activities as well.

Three stars for sustainability

The renovated Minnaert building has earned a BREAAM classification of ‘very good’, thanks in part to the new climate control installation, heat-cold storage system connection and use of LED lighting.

A delegation of study associations from the faculties of Science and Geosciences were welcomed musically by the chairman of the Executive Board Anton Pijpers, employees and construction partners. The official act was done by Anton Pijpers together with Gerrit van Meer, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Hans de Bresser, vice-dean of the Faculty of Geosciences, and Fiona van 't Hullenaar, director of Real Estate & Campus. On the occasion of the opening, breakfast was offered to all guests in the central hall of the Minnaert building.
