Reminder. Call for applications Diamond Open Access Fund

Since 2025, the Faculty of Humanities has set aside part of its library budget to support the shift from subscription content to open and equitable scholarly communication, in the form of a Diamond Open Access Fund Humanities. 

One of the support routes offered by the fund is a three-year renewable subsidy for Diamond Open Access journals. They can apply for financial support of up to €5000 a year for a period of three years. The funding can be used for a wide range of purposes including editorial support, proofreading, typesetting, translation, and hosting costs.

The first round of applications for this support route is now open. 

Who qualifies?

Diamond Open Access journals (community-owned journals that do not charge fees to either its readers or its authors) and journals that are transitioning to Diamond Open Access.

Applications need to be submitted by an individual who has the right to communicate on behalf of the journal (usually an editor). Journals do not need to have any UU Humanities staff member on the editorial board to qualify for funding, but a statement of support from a UU Faculty of Humanities a staff member is required.

If you are a UU Humanities staff member, feel free to pass on this call to your favourite external journal(s) and collaborate with them on an application!

Apply before 19 June

Apply by filling out the form below along with the statement of support (if applicable). Submit your application to diamond.support@uu.nl by Friday 19 June 2026.

Journals who meet all eligibility criteria and whose applications are complete will receive notification of acceptance/rejection in the week of 29 June. If we need any additional information from you to assess your application, we aim to let you know by 19 June 2026. Please note that this may delay the notification date.

A second application round will take place in the autumn.
