Privacy and security parade 2025: tips for researchers
From Monday 27 to Thursday 30 January 2025, the UU-wide Privacy & Security Parade will take place at the UU. There is a packed programme with something to do for everyone, from interesting lectures to fun events like a pub quiz, free lunch and familiar chair persons like Eus and Jort Kelder. As a researcher, there are multiple topics that may interest you, depending on your area of expertise. We want to share four tips, one for each day (with speakers from three different faculties):
Tip 1: GDPR misunderstandings
Monday 27th January 11:00-12:00 Tina van der Linden will talk about common misunderstandings about the GDPR, including the idea that the regulation is often used as an excuse ("it is not allowed by the GDPR") while certain things can be organised GDPR compliant perfectly well (USP, in Dutch).
Tip 2: Artificial intelligence in education and research
Tuesday 28th January 10:00-11:00, Roeland de Bruin will talk about artificial intelligence (AI) within education and research and shows how we can cleverly use laws and regulations to accelerate innovation and get new technologies like AI widely accepted (USP, in Dutch).
Tip 3: Human factors of cybersecurity
Wednesday 29th January 13:00-14:00, Kate Labunets will talk about the interaction between cybersecurity and human factors, using empirical methods to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of security strategies (USP, in English).
Tip 4: The relationship between GDPR and artificial intelligence
Thursday 30th January 10:00-11:00, Nadya Purtova takes you into the world of generative AI and the GDPR, and answers everything you always wanted to know about the impact of this technology on privacy, but were afraid to ask (USP, in English).
