The Security History Network (SHN) recently launched a podcast series in which SHN members engage in conversation with security analysts, historians and social scientists from around the world. The core topic: security history from the nineteenth century onwards.

Episode 1: Virginia H. Aksan

In the first episode, SHN member and Assistant Professor of Transimperial History Ozan Ozavci talks to Canadian Emeritus Professor of Islamic History Virginia H. Aksan (McMaster University). Aksan is a historian and an honorary member of the Turkish Historical Society. Her main research interest is the history of the Ottoman Empire.

“My advice to the young about military history”, Aksan says, “is you should join with the older generation to find a new way to talk about this.”
