Oxford University Press open access cap for gold journals has been reached
The open access cap of Oxford University Press (OUP) for gold journals has been reached. This means that UU and UMC Utrecht authors will no will no longer receive a 100% discount on open access article publication costs (APCs).
What are the consequences?
For the rest of the year, the publisher still offers the possibility to publish it open access, but the costs are no longer covered by the consortium agreement. You will receive the invoice yourself.
What can you do?
- Has your article been accepted, but you can no longer take advantage of the deal? If so, look for other funding options to publish open access. If you are out of other options, please contact the library.
- Have you not yet submitted your article? Then consider waiting until 2026, when new agreements may be concluded.
- Publish for free in a diamond open access journal. You can find these journals in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Search for “journals” and filter by “without fees”.
- You can also choose a journal from another publisher. Use the UU Journal Browser to see whether you, as a UU or UMC Utrecht author, can publish open access (OA) for free or at a discount and under what conditions.

About open access deals
The UU and the Universities of the Netherlands have bought out all or part of the costs for open access publishing in open access deals. This allows a certain number of articles to be published in open access free of charge. However, there is a maximum number of articles that can be published in this way. See which caps have been reached or will be reached soon on openaccess.nl.
