Out of the bubble together: Community Engaged Learning in practice

Are you a lecturer or a student and do you enjoy working on social issues outside the 'bubble' of the university? And would you like to expand your network with interesting social organisations?

Utrecht University is organising a networking event at the Social Impact Factory on Wednesday 22 January, from 12.45 to 17.30, to connect students, researchers/teachers and social organisations. And you can still register!

What can you expect?

During this meeting, students, faculty/scientists will engage with community organizations around current issues. We will exchange different insights and explore opportunities for future collaboration.

All participants are asked in advance to submit discussion questions that we will work on during the meeting. We do this on the basis of the themes that, according to the Social Cultural Planning Bureau, were central during the previous elections:

  • Social security
  • Equal opportunities
  • Asylum and migration
  • Healthcare and support
  • Sustainability as a social task
  • Labour market tightness
  • Relationship between citizens and government

There will also be a keynote on the theme of polarisation and we will conclude with networking drinks.

Please note that this meeting will be in Dutch.

Programme

12.45-13.15 Walk-in with coffee/tea and a cake
13.15-14.15 Plenary opening with keynote

14.30-16.30 Interactive sessions: collaborating on topical issues

16.30-17.30 networking, including tasty drinks and snacks

About Community Engaged Learning

UU wants to contribute to current social issues. We do not want to do this in our own 'bubble' of researchers and students, but rather together with social partners who work on those issues in practice. We also call this collaboration between students, teachers and social partners Community Engaged Learning (CEL). This event is organised by the university-wide CEL programme, which aims to strengthen the university's community engagement through education.
