Open Cities Monthly Research-in-Progress seminars

The Open Cities Platform is excited to announce the launch of our Monthly Research Seminar, an engaging and collaborative space designed for Research Masters, PhD candidates, and all UU researchers and students from the departments of Media and Culture Studies, Anthropology, Geography, and beyond. If your research focuses on cities, urban culture, infrastructures, or the mediatization and datafication of everyday life across the globe, this seminar is for you!

Taking place on each first Thursday of the month, our seminar is inclusive, welcoming scholars at all stages of their careers to participate. Each session will feature two scholars presenting their work-in-progress texts, receiving detailed feedback from expert discussants in a safe and supportive environment. This collaborative setting encourages the exchange of ideas and constructive criticism, vital for refining research. Texts may include thesis chapters, journal papers, book proposals, or grant proposals, allowing for a diverse range of academic contributions. We plan to circulate the texts amongst participants one week in advance. Presenters will be asked to give a 10-minute talk about their texts, discussants will give feedback based on their reading, then the floor will be opened for the rest of participants. No need to prepare flashy presentations, just bring your questions about research.

The upcoming seminars will take place on:

  • September 5th
  • October 3rd
  • November 7th
  • December 5th
