The massive digitisation of cultural heritage such as historical books, archive documents and images, offers unique opportunities to enrich historical sources with knowledge from a wide range of user groups (such as professional or amateur historians). In the project ‘Annotating History: Managing Digital Heritage Interactively’, historians from Utrecht University will work together with Brill Publishers, Museum Huis Doorn and the University Library to design a versatile annotation tool, based on a prototype that was developed in the project 'Annotated Books Online' (2012-2014).

The project, initiated at Utrecht University by Prof. Arnoud Visser (department of Languages, Literature and Communication) and ir. Jan Molendijk (University Library), has received funding from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), in the context of the 'Alfa Meerwaarde' funding programme.
