New fund for Italy Studies

On Wednesday 21 May, the Hoogewerff-Hendrix Fund for Italy Studies was launched. The fund promotes the scholarly study of Italian culture in the Low Countries by giving grants to Dutch researchers and institutions.
Those conducting research in the Netherlands on post-1200 Italy can apply to this fund. This applies in particular to those focusing on the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and on the interactions between Italy and the Low Countries.

The Hoogewerff-Hendrix Fund for Italy Studies was founded by Harald Hendrix (1958), professor of Italian language and culture at Utrecht University (2001-2025) and director of the Royal Dutch Institute in Rome (2014-2019), on the occasion of his retirement in June 2025. It is partly named after G.J. Hoogewerff, the first director of both Dutch institutes in Italy and professor of art history at Utrecht University.
