New chair Board Future Food Utrecht

Changes in the Board

We proudly present Marko Hekkert (Faculty of Geosciences) as the new Chair and Merel Soons (Faculty of Science) as Vice Chair of the Future Food Utrecht HUB. Marko Hekkert is specialised in transition models and Merel Soons is a specialist in biodiversity and the interrelation between food production and nature.  Their expertise, networks and ambitions form a perfect fit with the FFU goals. This strengthening of the FFU board will enable us to further develop and prepare for the future.

Only by novel, smart food production and consumption strategies will we manage to feed the world's population in a sustainable way

It is my ambition that the most important food related stakeholders see Utrecht as a significant knowledge partner they like to work with.

FFU Board
(L to R) Denise de Ridder, Rens Voesenek and Marca Wauben

The current chair Rens Voesenek and board members Denise de Ridder and Marca Wauben have been with FFU from the very start. In the past five years they have been able to successfully establish a platform where scientists from all faculties can collaborate to find solutions for complex food challenges, together with external stakeholders. Now the foundation of the hub has been laid, they feel it is time to make room for a new board with a fresh onlook on the Future Food activities.
What they have accomplished is really unique within Utrecht University, a basis FFU can successfully build upon. They will of course remain connected with the FFU programmes with their research.
