New book and documentary: The impact of sport mega events on local communities in Rio

The book ‘Rio is not for Amateurs’ and the documentary ‘De Reis van Je Leven’ (The Journey of Your Life) were launched during a well visited symposium in Utrecht. The book and docu are based on research executed by 28 students from Utrecht School of Governance and were partly financed by Sport & Society.

Sport organizations like NOC*NSF and KNVB and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed their appreciation for the research and embraced the results. Also, two representatives  of Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) were present. Sport & Society and UFRRJ will continue their collaboration with a new research during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016.

If you are interested in the book 'Rio is not for Amateurs', please contact researchproject@svperikles.nl.

In the early hours of November 25 2015, several students shared their experiences and discussed the main conclusions of their research projects at Dutch radio stations BNR and Radio 1 (recordings are in Dutch).
