Most buildings closed during holidays

From 21 December to 5 January, most university buildings will be closed. A couple of buildings will stay open for students and staff who would like to study or work during the holiday period.

Please note that more buildings will be closed than during previous end-of-year holidays. Please read the information below carefully to avoid disappointment.

  • Vening Meinesz Building C (7am-5pm)

Background

Sustainability is high on our agenda. Minimising our energy consumption is an important step towards reducing our CO2 emissions. During the end-of-year holidays, occupancy in many buildings is low. By temporarily closing most buildings, we avoid unnecessary consumption of heating, lighting and ventilation systems.

In addition, as a university, we will need to make substantial savings. By temporarily closing buildings, we save on energy and on facility service costs.

Research

For research buildings, the current weekend and holiday arrangements will continue to apply: authorised persons can enter the laboratories with their campus card, based on the working alone arrangement (where relevant).
