Prof. Marleen van Rijswick has been appointed as a deputy member of the 'College van Beroep voor het Hoger Onderwijs' (CBHO) as of 1 July 2019.
The CBHO is an independent court of law. A student at a university of applied sciences or university can appeal to the CBHO if he disagrees with a decision of his educational institution. The CBHO will give its opinion on the case in a decision. An appeal against this decision is no longer possible.
In addition to her expertise as a lawyer and professor, Marleen van Rijswick's experience in both science and higher education is decisive for the appointment. She was vice-chairman of the 'College van Beroep voor de Examens' (CBE) in Utrecht. Members of the CBHO and its deputy members are appointed by royal decree.
Marleen van Rijswick is professor of European and Dutch Water Law and is director of Utrecht Universty Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law. She researches the question how law can contribute to a sustainable and equitable use of water based on shared responsibilities. She is also a deputy judge at the District Court in Den Bosch.
