Manon Kluijtmans new Dean of UCU

The Executive Board has appointed Prof. Dr. Manon Kluijtmans as the new Dean of University College Utrecht (UCU) per November 1, 2025. She is currently Professor of Education to Connect Science and Professional Practice at UMC Utrecht and Vice Rector of Education at Utrecht University. Kluijtmans succeeds Susan te Pas, who fulfills the role of Dean until July 1. Until November, Christel Lutz is acting Dean at UCU.

Rector Magnificus Wilco Hazeleger is pleased with Kluijtmans' appointment and praises her impressive track record in connecting research, education and professional practice. "Her expertise, combined with her broad administrative experience, makes her a great asset to UCU and the university as a whole. Manon has already successfully fulfilled several roles, including serving as former director and founder of the Center for Academic Teaching and Learning (CAT). Her leadership style is to inspire people to look across disciplines, cultures and organizations. We are therefore convinced that she is in the right place as Dean of UCU."

The UCU Council, which represents both students and staff, was actively involved in developing the profile for the new Dean and in the appointment process. They have responded positively—highlighting, for example, Kluijtmans' experience in tackling complex organizational challenges and her strong commitment to critical reflection and continuous learning.

“I am very much looking forward to becoming part of UCU's inspiring, international community,” says Manon Kluijtmans. "As Dean of UCU, I particularly want to work towards an even stronger integration of education, research and practice, in order to contribute to positive social change. The open curriculum, in combination with the residential character of UCU, the diverse intake, and the highly motivated staff, provide an environment in which the Utrecht educational model is shown to its full advantage. It is a special privilege to be part of this community.”
