Maintaining social distance with help from videos and a robot

Maintaining social distance from one another is still the most important basic rule for preventing the spread of the coronavirus. Denise de Ridder, Professor of Psychology at Utrecht University, wondered how people could be motivated to keep their distance.

In the video above, De Ridder talks about her coronavirus project at Utrecht Science Park, which she and her colleagues have been conducting over the past few months. How did she manage to convince staff and students to keep their distance? What effect did the video clips on the large screens have? And what role did robot Robin play?

De Ridder: “The thing I enjoyed the most, was the answers to the question: who are we keeping our distance for? One of the most common answers was: for everyone.”
