Leendert van Maanen and Baptist Liefooghe join grant-awarded ELSA Lab
Leendert van Maanen and Baptist Liefooghe are participating in The Value Alignment in Medical AI (VAMAI) Lab that has recently been awarded a NWO ELSA Lab grant (2.3M euro).
The VAMAI Lab will tackle a critical question for the future of healthcare: how can AI systems be not only safe, but also truly aligned with human values, patients, and clinical practice? The project aims to ensure that medical AI systems are valuable, trustworthy, and human-centered. While safety is essential, AI must also align with human values to be truly beneficial in clinical practice. VAMAI will explore whose values are considered and why, developing practical guidance for inclusive and patient-driven AI in healthcare.
The VAMAI Lab is led by Karin Jongsma (UMC Utrecht) in a consortium with TU Eindhoven, Utrecht University, and UMCU. Theteam was supported with seed money from EWUU Artificial Intelligence.
Researchers Leendert van Maanen (Department of Psychology, SIG AI, Government, and Behavior) and Baptist Liefooghe (Department of Psychology, SIG Social and Cognitive AI) are both members of the HAI Focus area and are leading the Trust work package.
