Importance of pitching

Researchers are increasingly asked to explain their research to a non-scientific audience. It can be quite a challenge to pour years of research work into a three-minute story. But learning to pitch is very useful; at conferences, when applying for scholarships or in preparation for the layman’s talk. The pitch contest Breaking Science offers you the opportunity to practice and improve this skill.

Training

You will be trained in designing your story, (stage) presentation and audience interaction. Then during the preliminaries, called heats, you will compete with other participants on a real stage with an audience.

Final

A jury judges all pitches on content, clarity and connection. Winners of the heats compete again in the finals on May 28. The winner of the final will receive € 1500 to spend on attending conferences or summer schools. All preliminary rounds and the finals will take place in Parnassos Cultural Center.
