Joop Schippers receives Utrecht University silver medal

Joop Schippers met de UU erepenning

Joop Schippers received the honorary medal from Utrecht University upon his unofficial retirement. He will remain active as a professor for a while.

Joop Schippers has played an important role in Utrecht employee participation for many years, first as an independent chair of the Faculty Council of Law, Economics and Governance and since 2007 as a member of the University Council. He has always done this with new enthusiasm, critically and constructively. He has always kept a fresh, sharp eye, represented the employees with authority and was always prepared to use his knowledge and broad network.

In addition, Joop has had a key role in coordinating the interdisciplinary 'Future of Work' research at Utrecht University. As a labor economist, he knows how to make his scientific knowledge accessible to a wide audience; with podcasts, many media appearances, lectures, workshops, etc. In 2013, he also received the publi prize from Utrecht University.

Joop Schippers has been associated with Utrecht University for his entire academic life. He is an ambassador for our university and has contributed with verve for years to improvements in university policy and keeps the administration sharp.

Reason enough to praise him the moment he reaches the retirement age. The text on the medal reads: 'Joop Schippers: critical and loyal with a passion for employee participation and science'.
