Join our Studium Generale events this fall
For 80 years, Studium Generale has been exploring how ideas arise, how facts are used, and which stories help us to understand the world better. We do this in person, through inquiry, and with an eye for nuance, doubt and dissent. Not to amplify doubt beyond what is necessary, but to learn to think more critically together.
This autumn too. We’ll be exploring how Europe upholds its values in a world of war and threats, the difficult choices doctors face regarding life and death, how pop culture and friendship shape us, and who will eventually set the rules in space.

About Studium Generale
Here, academics, students and other curious visitors engage in dialogue with one another, seeking answers and posing new questions. Through lectures, talk shows and articles, we link science to current social issues. We look beyond the boundaries of disciplines and the issues of the day. Admission is free.
10th edition Betweter Festival
This year we are celebrating the tenth edition of the Betweter Festival at TivoliVredenburg. Featuring, amongst others, writer Joris Luyendijk and public administration expert Femke van Esch on how Europe can stand on its own two feet, neurobiologist Brankele Frank on music as the ultimate form of sensory stimulation, astrobiologist Inge Loes ten Kate on the likelihood that we are not alone in the universe, and philosopher Annemarie Kalis on how much control we have over ourselves and our thoughts, journalist Rinke Verkerk and historian Peter Malcontent on Gaza and complicity.
