Jeffrey Bajramovic presents position paper to Dutch Parliament

3Rs Centre Utrecht’s director Jeffrey Bajramovic visited the Dutch Parliament to present 3RCU’s new position paper.

The 3RCU position paper focuses on a question the centre works on every day: how do we turn the ambition for animal-free science into real change in research practice? Because developing new methods is only part of the story. If researchers don’t know which alternatives exist, can’t access the right expertise, or don’t get support in changing established research approaches, promising innovations may never make it into practice.

Our message to policymakers focused on three things: invest not only in innovation, but also in implementation, make active efforts to replace, reduce and refine animal use part of responsible research and look beyond animal experiments themselves to the animal-derived materials that can still be hidden within supposedly “animal-free” methods.

It was valuable to bring the practical experience of the 3RCU and the challenges we see researchers facing every day directly into the political conversation.
