Janneke Plantenga reappointed Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance
In 2018, the Executive Board appointed Janneke Plantenga as Interim Dean of the Faculty for a two-year term. By making Plantenga an Interim Dean, the Board enabled her to complete several key changes to the organisation and its support provision that had been initiated by her predecessor Annetje Ottow. There is a great deal of admiration on the side of the Executive Board for the manner in which Plantenga has achieved these changes in the Faculty. In addition, Plantenga has taken good steps in the implementation of the current faculty and university strategic plan. The Faculty Council also recognizes this. For this reason, and after a broad consultation, the Executive Board has decided to reappoint her for a term of four years.
As of 2005, Plantenga has been professor of Economics of Public Welfare at Utrecht University. From 2000 to 2005, she held a chair at the University of Groningen. In her research, she takes an economic perspective to address social inequality within society. Her previous functions in the administration of Utrecht University include Head of the Economics Department and Vice Dean of research at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance. Since 2018, she has chaired the UU Diversity Task Force. And Plantenga is also amongst others a member of the Central Plan Committee of CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis, which advises the bureau on its work and methods.
