Historicus Jacco Pekelder start 1 oktober als hoogleraar in Münster

As of 1 October, historian Jacco Pekelder is Professor of Modern and Contemporary History of the Netherlands at the Westfälische Wilhelm-Universität Münster (WWU) and director of the university's Zentrum für Niederlande-Studien.

Among other things, Pekelder will set up comparative research into the European reactions to the rise of Germany in the 19th century and our current time, and continue to work on popularising the German-Dutch border region. Pekelder will remain connected to Utrecht University through a PhD project on Italy and German unification, several student exchanges and a new internship research project with Museum Huis Doorn.

In addition to teaching at Utrecht University, Pekelder is also Professor of Contemporary Western European History at the Universität des Saarlandes, scientific director of the national Research School Political History (RSPH) and chairman of the Utrecht branch of the Netherlands Society for International Affairs (NGIZ). He published, among other things, the books Nieuw nabuurschap. Nederland en Duitsland na de val van de Muur (2014) and Sympathie voor de RAF. De Rote Armee Fraktion in Nederland (2007).
