Call for Contributions

For ITD24, we invite contributions from all fields and research cultures, ranging from local interdisciplinary and interprofessional projects to projects spanning the Global North and the Global South. This conference addresses both the theory and practice of inter- and transdisciplinary research collaboration and the educational pathways to making such collaborations sustainable and available for all.

About the conference

The conference will take place from 4 to 8 November 2024 at the Railway Museum in Utrecht. This years’ theme is ‘Inter- and Transdisciplinarity Beyond Buzzwords: Educational Pathways for Sustainable Research Collaborations’. This conference offers leading trainers, researchers, practitioners, and students from around the world the opportunity to share their knowledge, insights, and expertise on the critical issues in inter- and transdisciplinarity needed to build capacity in and through research, education, policy making, activism, and artistic engagement.

ITD24 is organised by the ITD Alliance, the global alliance for inter- and transdisciplinarity, td-net, a network for transdisciplinary research, and the Utrecht Programme for Interdisciplinary Education led by prof dr. Iris van der Tuin (dean of interdisciplinary education).

First speakers are announced

Work on the programme is currently in full swing, but the first speakers have been confirmed. Mieke Bal, cultural theorist, critic, video artist, and curator, will speak about her concept of ‘Inter-ships’. The title of her keynote is: Inter-ships: On Being In-Between in Cultural, Disciplinary, Subjective and Medial Encounters.  We will also welcome Rick Szostak, a much praised scholar from Canada. He will host a panel discussion on 'Commonalities and Divergences in Inter/Transdisciplinary Thought'.
