More and more veterinarians are using PetScan, which can easily be integrated into the veterinary practice's patient management system at no cost. Hans Kooistra enthusiastically praises the use of PetScan: “An additional advantage of PetScan for the veterinarian is that there is a list of predispositions, so that one can quickly see which condition is common in a particular breed, allowing a faster diagnosis. PetScan also provides the ability to see what diagnostics you need to perform for those conditions. Moreover, there are links to scientific articles.”

Call: record diagnoses in PetScan for more knowledge

At the end of the video he makes an important call: “Veterinarians, make sure you don't just use PetScan to look up diagnoses, but also record them in the system. This is the case for all diagnoses, not necessarily just those of hereditary conditions. It's done in a click. The data enters anonymously into a large database, that make it possible for veterinary researchers to do further research and expand the information in the system. The developers are also constantly adding new features. For example, nowadays behavioral diagnoses can be registered.

The Expertise Center for Veterinary Genetics works with two ambassadors, a veterinary specialist from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and a veterinarian from a primary care veterinary practice. This second ambassador will be Kristel de Munnik, veterinarian and practice manager in Ermelo and Harderwijk.

The PetScan project is made possible in part by the partners and donors of Friends of Veterinary Medicine, with support from many private donors, Maria Naundorf van Gorkum Fund, Abri for Animals Foundation, Dutch Companion Animal Database Foundation, Royal Canin and Anicura.
