Global corporations and information and the open society

What do globalized corporations, knowledge and media bring for an open society and its values?

In February 2019, the Platform Markets & Corporations in Open Societies organized a multidisciplinary seminar, revolving around the question “What do globalized corporations, knowledge and media bring for an open society and its values?”. For this seminar, the platform engaged with various speakers from practice and academia, and cooperated with the IOS Stream Legitimacy and Institutions.

This seminar resulted in the publication of the Dutch essay collection ‘Ondernemen in de Open Samenleving', available open access or through Boom uitgevers. This book explores the opportunities, but also the downsides, of the constantly evolving 'open society'. Global markets and corporations have brought opportunities and prosperity for many, but have increasingly open markets also brought the political ideal of an open society any closer? The collection is edited by prof. dr. Rutger Claassen and prof. dr. Judith van Erp. The other contributors are Friederycke Haijer, Joost de Laat, Elaine Mak, Mark Sanders and Mirko Tobias Schäfer.
