Free open access publications with Springer temporarily unavailable

The (national) maximum number of articles that may be published open access at Springer free of charge has been reached. From January 1, 2020, the option to publish open access without additional costs will be re-activated.

The Springer Open Access license allows for (nationally) a maximum of 2,080 articles to be published open access, without additional costs for the author. The maximum number has been reached at this time.

This means that from today Monday 9 December:

• In the MyPublication Portal of Springer, authors will no longer find the option to publish open access within the VSNU license.
• In the MyPublication Portal authors can opt for open access, but will receive an invoice and will have to provide funding themselves.

From 1 January 2020, the option to publish open access without additional costs will be re-activated (regardless of the acceptance date).
