Frank van der Duijn Schouten joins the Utrecht University Supervisory Board

Prof. Frank van der Duijn Schouten has been appointed as a member of the Utrecht University Supervisory Board by the Minister of Education, Culture and Science with effect from 1 August. Van der Duijn Schouten (b. 1949) is emeritus professor of mathematical decision theory and has previously served as Rector Magnificus of Tilburg University and VU University Amsterdam. He succeeds Prof. Wim van de Donk, who stepped down as a member of the Supervisory Board on 1 January 2018.

Van der Duijn Schouten knows the Dutch and international higher education sectors inside and out. From 1967 to 1973 he studied Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy at VU University Amsterdam. He then went on to obtain his PhD from Leiden University in 1979. Van der Duijn Schouten has held numerous administrative positions within the academic world throughout his academic career, including serving as Rector Magnificus of Tilburg University for nine years and Rector Magnificus of VU University Amsterdam from 2013 to 2015. He is currently dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam. The University Council supports his appointment as a member of the Supervisory Board of Utrecht University.

Utrecht University Supervisory Board

As required by law, the Supervisory Board is the supervisory body of Utrecht University. The Executive Board requires the Supervisory Board's approval for matters such as the Strategic Plan, the Annual Report and the Financial Statements. The Executive Board additionally keeps the Supervisory Board up to date on key developments and affairs at Utrecht University. The Supervisory Board is currently composed of president Prof. Emmo Meijer (former Corporate Director of R&D at Friesland Campina), Karin Bergstein MBA (member of the Executive Board of a.s.r.), Dr Jan van der Eijk (former Chief Technology Officer at Shell) and Joanne Kellermann (former member of the Single Resolution Board).
