Feeding Curiosity – Monthly Foodyear Stories by Future Food Utrecht

October and November

“Feeding Curiosity” is the slogan of the Foodyear, highlighting our monthly series where Future Food Utrecht teams up with the Faculty Club and Vineyard to showcase a special dish or drink, paired with a story that connects food, science, and society.

In October, the featured wine was Les Voyageurs, crafted by a winemaker responding to climate change. Dorota Kawa wrote a compelling article linking his story to her own research on how plant roots adapt to environmental stress. Even though the wine special has passed, her story continues to spark curiosity about the connections between food and science.

For November, the focus moves to the Nature Dinner on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, themed “(K)Now from Nature”. Guests will experience live table talks with two inspiring experts:

  • Marijke van Kuijk, Associate Professor of Wildlife Ecology and Nature Restoration, a tropical forest ecologist studying interactions between wild animals and plants. She will share insights on food for wild animals and its role in sustaining healthy ecosystems.
  • Gillina Bezemer, guest researcher and PhD candidate at the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, and programme leader of the Graduate Honours Interdisciplinary Seminars (GHIS). She will discuss hunting, damage control, and the potential of goose meat as a sustainable food source.

The evening includes a four-course menu of wild and local products paired with fine wines, creating a unique experience where food, science, and sustainability meet, true to the spirit of Feeding Curiosity by Future Food Utrecht.
