Faculty of Humanities appoints two new Board members with Education portfolio
As of 1 September 2024, the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Humanities at Utrecht University will include two new Board members holding the Education portfolios. Bert van den Brink will serve as interim Board member holding the Bachelor’s Education portfolio, and Vincent Crone will hold the Master’s Education portfolio.
Bert van den Brink interim Vice Dean of Bachelor’s Education
Bert van den Brink is Professor of Political and Social Philosophy and former Dean of University College Roosevelt (UCR). Within the Faculty of Humanities, he has previously held roles as Director of Education and Vice Dean. “I have always remained a child of this faculty,” he says, “and I look forward to, together with the departments and Faculty Board, find answers that will make studying and teaching in the humanities attractive, even under changing circumstances.”
“After the recent personnel changes within the Faculty Board, we now choose not to immediately appoint a definitive successor to Iris van der Tuin as Vice Dean of Bachelor’s Education,” Dean Thomas Vaessens explains. “Instead, I have found Bert willing to join us ad interim.” Alongside his new role at the Faculty of Humanities, Van den Brink will continue to teach at UCR and to work as part of the Utrecht University CHARM-EU team.
Vincent Crone portfolio holder of Master’s Education
Vincent Crone is currently Associate Professor of Media Studies and Principal Fellow of the Centre for Academic Teaching en Learning (CAT). He has been affiliated with Utrecht University since 2004, serving in roles including Director of Education and Senior Fellow of the CAT. Additionally, he has held various positions within the university in the field of educational research, innovation, and teacher professionalisation.
“Our graduate education shows that by integrating recognisable social issues, we can not only better respond to students’ interests and needs, but also increase the visibility and legitimacy of our education,” Crone says. “It is my aim to strengthen that in the coming years.” Crone will also continue his current roles.
